Mahango Game Reserve

It was gripping cold last night! I literally felt the cold grip my head !!
We heard hippo sounds very close to our tent. Perhaps having the CD was not such a good idea!!

CHAR day ! We have dishes and laundry that needs to be cleaned ! Made the kids waffles for breakfast. It was a nice easy morning – no rush to pack up and move on Alhamdulillah.
The kids got their first lesson in the birds and the … moths when they saw a pair in a very odd position!
Around 10am we took a trip to Namibia to Mahango Game reserve. Although the tour passes through here, we do not get to explore it.
We loved the game reserve ! We saw elephant, giraffe, variety of buck and a giant baobab !! Aasiyah loved seeing the giraffe drinking while bending over.
We also saw a monitor lizard and warthogs.  We stopped at a picnic spot and had lunch, it seems fairly safe. Next we saw hippos, crocs and birds.
I enjoyed using the binoculars (properly) and now wish my camera was as good or even better! Just before leaving the park we saw an injured elephant – he was hopping on 3 legs. Marwaan took a chance to get a close up photo of this elephant – he reasoned that since he was injured he'd be unable to charge. Aasiyah was amused to see his ding-a-ling!
Muhammad was very hesitant to go to the baobab – perhaps he was very aware of the wild animals in the park.
The trees in this area are almost perfectly formed – clearly there is very little wind, as they are all straight up ! Anthills are also very common – found in game reserves as well as along the road.
We had supper at our campsite with our fellow campers. Aasiyah recited to one of the campers and explained how she has to learn her surahs. Muhammad is still shy.

Kids were both bushed after today. I loved watching them play together in the reserve.
